Join us throughout the day for fascinating talks and engaging public forums featuring leading voices from the world of Creative Intelligence. 12 noon – Practicing Democracy: Danielle Brathwaite-Shirley Can you keep up with the pace of change? Artificial intelligence, algorithmic feeds and digital platforms increasingly shape how we think, communicate and understand the world. Yet opportunities to sit with people we disagree with, listen openly and work through differences together have become increasingly rare. Practicing Democracy is a live public forum mediated by a game. Participants are invited to discuss urgent contemporary issues: AI, Immigration, religion, trans rights, masculinity and freedom of speech. The game structures the conversation, presenting difficult scenarios that require negotiation as a group with converging opinions. This forum is not about persuading people to agree with you. It is about practising the skills that democracy depends upon: listening, explaining, compromising and remaining engaged even when collective decisions are not the ones we hoped for. Democracy is not something we simply have. It is something we must continue to practise. 4pm – Small Revolutions: the history of UK skateboarding told through VR In this talk, immersive artist Darren Emerson and skater/film-maker Winstan Whitter discuss the history of skateboarding in the UK, its complex relationship with authority, its cultural legacy and the challenges of translating this subject into a multi-person immersive VR documentary experience which will premiere to audiences in 2027.
