In a small Midwestern American town, a series of brutal murders begins after teenagers become involved in a mysterious behavioural experiment. As the killings continue, police chief John Brady investigates a connection between the crimes and a local university research project that appears to be manipulating the minds of young people. A strange hybrid of slasher, science fiction, and paranoid conspiracy thriller, the film combines the atmosphere of 1950s creature features with the violence and experimentation of early 1980s horror. Its unusual mix of dark humour, bizarre scientific ideas, and Tangerine Dream’s electronic score has helped it develop a cult reputation among fans of offbeat genre cinema.
