Part of Sonica Glasgow 2026 A Cryptic Commission, developed during Cryptic’s Cove Park Residency In XFRMR multimedia artist Robbie Thomson harnesses the sonic potential of the Tesla coil, the 19th-century invention that first made electricity visible. Thomson has composed a musical score ‘played’ on the coil: a soundtrack that turns from melodic to searing, inspired by nature patterns and radio waves. As the music swoons and pounces, it sends light signals flaring through the Faraday cage that contains it, forming ever-changing geometries. Light, sound and the reek of ozone combine in a thrilling sensory overload that feels like your brain’s being rewired. “Bridging the technical and the spectacular, the popular and the arcane…” Aesthetica Duration - 40 mins with no interval ACCESS - Highly visual/ no or little text Audience notes Contains Strobe Effects; Flashing Lights; Loud or Sudden Noises Photo by Tom Lane

Not the same tradition as the lineage above — a genuinely different thread to pull, if you want one.
