Stay with us after the screening to make protest banners in response to the film. The workshops are drop-in, free to attend, and aimed at young people but everyone is welcome to attend. Book tickets for two or more of our Rip It Up: Find Your Own Way films in the same transaction to receive a discount! A warm, witty, joyous drama inspired by an extraordinary true story of two worlds banding together for a common cause. It’s the summer of 1984 - Thatcher is in power and the National Union of Mineworkers is on strike. At the Gay Pride March in London, a group of gay and lesbian activists decide to raise money to support the families of the miners. But there's a problem – the Union seems embarrassed to receive their support. Undeterred, the plucky activists set off for a mining village in rural Wales to make a donation in person... Showing as part of our Rip It Up: Find Your Own Way season of films celebrating youth culture and coming of age in the UK, programmed by young people across Edinburgh. Supported by funding from the BFI delivered through Film Hub Scotland.
