A young sailor on shore leave meets a woman who performs as a mermaid in a seaside carnival and quickly falls in love with her. As their relationship deepens, he learns of a local legend claiming that she is descended from a race of sirens whose lovers are doomed to die, and a series of mysterious deaths begins to make the story increasingly difficult to dismiss. Set among the piers, sideshows, and cafés of Santa Monica, the film unfolds as an atmospheric blend of romance, psychological mystery, and supernatural suggestion. Rather than relying on conventional horror, it sustains its tension through uncertainty, allowing myth, obsession, and loneliness to blur into one another as the mystery slowly takes shape.
