Dir Jennifer Kroot/US 2026/86 mins Hunky Jesus explores the legacy of the San Francisco chapter of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence: a global, secular order of queer and trans "nuns" who combat guilt, shame, and exclusion through joy, humor, activism, and irreverence. The Sisters’ annual Easter celebration called "Hunky Jesus", is as subversive, controversial and fun as it sounds. This glorious, blazing documentary opened BFI Flare 2026 and is SCENE's closing documentary, perfectly encapsulating the sense of joy, community, subversion and protest the festival hopes everyone will take into Manchester Pride weekend.
