Gwen John (1876–1939) has long been celebrated for her intensely observed and meditative paintings of women in quiet interior settings. She also worked extensively on paper, experimenting with technique, vibrant colour and abstraction and constantly looking anew at the world around her. The most comprehensive survey of the artist’s work in over 40 years, Gwen John | Strange Beauties offers fresh insight into John’s unique artistic vision. Charlotte Topsfield, Senior Curator (British Drawings and Prints), will introduce the themes and ideas covered in the exhibition.
