About this event

Artists Andrew Thomas Huang and Kyoko Takenaka collaborate on a live performance telling a tale of the afterlife and reincarnation, transformation and return. This live performance collaboration extends Huang’s video work, The Deer of Nine Colors, bringing it into new dimensions. The Buddhist sci-fi tale tells the story of a human spirit travelling through the afterlife to reincarnate as a wild deer. A dreamlike experience of transformation and return, Dance of the Nine-Colored Deer explores themes of Asian mythology, animism and queer ancestral futurism. Andrew Thomas Huang is a visual artist and film director known for his music videos for artists including Björk and FKA twigs, including the Grammy Award-nominated video for ‘Cellophane’. Kyoko Takenaka is an anti-disciplinary visual and performance artist – a butoh dancer, collaborative curator, producer, choreographer, performer, musician and composer. Co-produced by Onassis ONX. Creative Intelligence is commissioned and produced by the Southbank Centre. Curated with PACT – Planetary Art Culture Technology.
