Film fans will welcome our focus on analogue cinema this autumn! We are delighted to present a short programme of films originally shot on 16mm. While we don't have the capacity to screen the original analogue films we are keen to support a medium that is increasingly under threat by the advances in digital and AI filmmaking. To launch the season we present Sugarland the English language debut film by Austrian filmmaker Isabella Brunäcker. Iga, who recently broke up with her boyfriend, is driving in her car. Via monotonous highways and cheap accommodations, she travels from her home in Austria to Scotland. Along the way, she picks up Ethan, an Englishman who is a bit older and appears to be living a precarious, vagabond life. Iga and Ethan are not the only main characters in Sugarland; also playing major roles are, among others, the journey, the detours, the stops at seemingly nameless places, the vastness, and the sense of loneliness within it. Sugarland was the 2025 Kodak Analogue Film Prize winner at the Diagonale Film Festival in Graz. Austria, 2025, 86min, English, directed by Isabella Brunäcker.
