Bristol Documentary Film Festival is the South West's new home for bold, creative documentary. Over the weekend, we'll be screening films that take risks, stir something in you, and stay with you long after the credits roll. Still, Moving — A tender dialogue between a filmmaker, her acrobat partner, and her deceased mother — grief, distance, and a clown's musings, filmed across East London, the Netherlands and Latvia. FOCUS THROW — Paralympic javelin thrower Dan Pembroke, living with Retinitis Pigmentosa, reflects on pursuing excellence as the world around him fades. It All Comes Down — Three generations of women sit around a table as the granddaughter asks about the past — inherited memories of conflict in Northern Ireland, marked by the absence of words. White Gold Yellow Gold — On his girlfriend's birthday, a jeweller rushes to finish making her present in time for dinner. Adas Falasteen (Palestine Lentils) — A Palestinian chef uses his hobby as a shield against the famine caused by the war on Gaza, preserving resilience and hope in his community. Birds of War — The love story of a London-based Lebanese journalist and a Syrian-based activist/cameraman, over thirteen years of revolutions, war and exile. When You Were Young Were You Afraid of The Moon? — Nawal moved to Berlin from Palestine to build a life away from occupation, leaving behind her mother Neta, an Israeli activist in the West Bank — a meditation on inheritance at a moment of turmoil. A Story Left Behind — A researcher discovers the fragmented story of the first Somali woman to migrate to Sheffield, and goes on a journey to fill in the gaps. Beyond Words — The Genetic Choir Ensemble visits nursing homes, connecting with residents living with dementia through improvised sound and touch — what singing can do when other communication is lost. Push The Machine — A young stuntman embarks on the most perilous, illegal project of his life. With police on his trail, the jump itself is only half the challenge.
