Join historian Lisa Williams on our 2026 Gala Day for a tour of Calton Hill. Join this special walking tour with Caribbean British historian, Lisa Williams (University of Edinburgh and St Andrews). Come along for a whistle stop tour of Calton Hill’s colonial links and famous Black visitors from history. Hear about Frederick Douglas’ walks on the hill, Henry ‘Box’ Brown and his amazing panorama, Nelson’s role in the Caribbean and Scottish astronomers’ time in the Cape Colony. Why did Agnes Maclehose or ‘Clarinda’ go to Jamaica and what did she find? This event is part of our 2026 Gala Day on Saturday 5 September – a free day of art, performance, tours, makers and creative play for all.
