Step into a hypnotic, dreamlike film and sculpture installation offering a modern sci-fi retelling of a Buddhist folktale. Mythology, science fiction, animal extinction, reincarnation, and queer ancestral futurism coalesce into a dreamlike experience of transformation and return. The Deer of Nine Colors is a modern sci-fi retelling of the Buddhist folktale The Nine-Colored Deer from the Jataka Tales. Commissioned by the Thailand Biennale, the narrative follows a Thai woman who retraces her past life as a wild deer in order to find her true name. When she finds the courage to name herself, she transforms into the nine-coloured deer and attains true bliss. Andrew Thomas Huang is a visual artist and film director known for his music videos for artists including Björk, FKA twigs and Atoms for Peace. In 2019, Huang was nominated for a Grammy for his music video for FKA twigs’ ‘Cellophane’. Co-produced by Onassis ONX. Creative Intelligence is commissioned and produced by the Southbank Centre.
