This intensive CPD workshop at the SOAS Language Centre is designed to boost your teaching expertise, improve lesson-planning efficiency, and provide a structured approach to staging lessons effectively. You will learn how to guide students from language presentation to practice and, ultimately, to confident, enjoyable language production. This event is hosted by the Language Centre . What you will gain A SOAS CPD Certificate in Teaching Foreign Languages. Practical strategies for effective lesson staging. Confidence in moving from theory to classroom application. The chance to take part in an observation session and a mentored co-teaching session with SOAS Language Centre classes providing real-life experience in a supportive environment (optional). Hands-on workshop Combine interactive theory with practical applications, participate in practical activities, collaborate with your peers, and apply real-world teaching techniques. Each session offers opportunities to try out new methods and receive feedback from trainers and fellow teachers, ensuring you leave with strategies you can implement immediately. Hybrid delivery format The course is on campus and online, so you can fully participate in discussions and activities wherever you are. While we encourage on-campus attendance for the most immersive experience, online participants will have equal access to all sessions and exercises. Extra experience Participants can optionally extend their learning with an observation session and a mentored co-teaching session online or on-campus at the SOAS Language Centre. These can take place at any time during the academic year, depending on mentor and classes availability. The session may be in a different language from the one you teach, offering valuable insights into teaching methods and classroom management across diverse contexts. Entry requirements You must: be at least 18 years old at the start of the course demonstrate a certain standard of English proficiency Teaching experience is desirable, but not essential. Course details Course dates: 31 May 2027 to 3 June 2027 Time: 10:30am to 3:30pm every day (with a one-hour lunch break) Location: SOAS University campus or online Registration Register your interest to be notified when enrolment opens.
