Doors 7:45 PM, Music 8:30 PM - 2 sets of music Line-up: Ed Jones - Tenor saxophone Ross Stanley - Piano Riaan Vosloo - Double bass Tim Giles - Drum kit About: Award-winning saxophonist and composer Ed Jones returns to the quartet format that first established his presence on the UK jazz scene over three decades ago. Formed in 2011, the ensemble initially drew inspiration from the music of Wayne Shorter, but has since evolved into a dynamic collective where original compositions by Jones and bassist Riaan Vosloo take centre stage, shaped through the creative interplay of pianist Ross Stanley and drummer Tim Giles. Through extensive touring, the quartet has forged a distinctive collective sound where fiercely driven, intense ‘fire music’ converges with atmospheric, improvisational soundscapes. This is evident in both their strikingly original compositions and their innovative interpretations of the American Songbook. Plus, straight after this gig, the Vortex Jazz Club is hosting a watch party to celebrate England VS Panama in the football world cup. Join us from 10.30pm to watch the game on our projector and sound system. As the gig finishes at 22:30, so we will be showing the game from this time onwards (Kick-Off is at 22:00 - Approx End 23.45 unless extra time is needed).
